Animal Control in the town of Newfield is provided by the Tompkins County Animal Control.

Tompkins County Animal Control (TCAC) is a division of the SPCA of Tompkins County. TCAC officers will respond to calls about stray dogs, injured stray cats  and will work with members of the public to resolve “nuisance” complaints (barking, etc.). TCAC will respond to reports of abuse, cruelty or neglect of any animal anywhere in Tompkins County.

Here is a brief outline of what TCAC does and does not do:

What TCAC does
  • Provide emergency service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year
  • Dog licensure enforcement
  • Pick up stray dogs and provide impoundment services
  • Pick up distressed or injured stray animals
  • Respond to calls concerning:
    • Nuisance dogs
    • Dogs at large
    • Dangerous dogs
  • Respond to calls concerning cruelty, abuse, or negligence visited upon any animal
  • Pick up injured or distressed cats
  • Trap domestic animals under certain circumstances
What TCAC does not do
  • Pick up stray cats (unless injured or distressed)
  • Pick up animals the guardian plans to surrender
  • Trap or transport wildlife for relocation
